After Your Surgery: DOs & DON’Ts

  • Listen to your body. If an activity causes pain, stop.
  • Rest when you are tired.
  • Don’t have sexual intercourse or use tampons or douches until your doctor says it’s safe to do so.
  • Remember, you need to take it easy.

WHEN CAN I EXERCISE AGAIN?

Bronx Abortion does not recommend that have strenuous physical activity for 4-6 weeks after your abortion.

WHAT ABOUT LIFTING THINGS?

Don’t lift anything heavier than 5-10 pounds for 4-6 weeks after your abortion.

WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY FOLLOW-UP GYN EXAM?

3 Weeks Following Your Abortion you should have a GYN exam. We invite you to come back to our Bronx office after three weeks for a free follow-up exam. This is part of our patient care protocol and allows us to make sure that your reproductive health is restored.

  • Limit your physical activity for 4-6 weeks.
  • Don’t lift anything heavier than 5-10 pounds.
  • Avoid strenuous activities, including vacuuming, or playing sports.
  • Limit your activity to short, slow walks. Gradually increase your pace and distance as you feel able.

WHEN CAN I HAVE SEX AGAIN?

Bronx Abortion does not recommend that you not have vaginal intercourse or insert anything except a tampon into your vagina for one week after the abortion.

WHEN CAN I GET PREGNANT AGAIN?

You can get pregnant very soon after an abortion. So, birth control is an important and common concern for many women after abortion. Talk with your us about getting a birth control method that’s best for you.

WHEN WILL I GET MY NEXT PERIOD?

Abortion begins a new menstrual cycle . You should have a regular period in 4 to 8 weeks.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER A FIRST TRIMESTER ABORTION?

After the procedure, you will rest in a recovery area. You may be able to go home as soon as an hour afterward. You can expect to have cramping for 1 or 2 days afterward. Bleeding may last for up to 2 weeks.
